Understanding your finances and resources is extremely important to a nonprofit, because it provides insight as to whether or not you have the required resources to fulfill your mission. Today we are going to examine and learn how to understand your Statement of Activities, or Statement of Income and Expenses. Restricted Revenue shows funds with donor-placed restrictions on how or when you can spend the money. You can include all restricted funds together or segment them by donation type.<\/p>\n<p><img class='aligncenter' style='display: block;margin-left:auto;margin-right:auto;' src=\"https:\/\/www.bookstime.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/2a5e9f6a51.jpg\" width=\"257px\" alt=\"statement of financial activities\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Finance\u2019 refers to anything to do with the exchange of certain capital assets between people, companies, or states. The word \u2018financial\u2018 is  the adjective of the noun or verb finance and the noun finances. However, as you can see  below, the noun \u2018financials\u2018 has a specific meaning.<\/p>\n<h2>What Are the Main Items Shown in Financial Statements?<\/h2>\n<p>This report identifies funds received without donor restrictions and funds with donor restrictions. Additionally, this report will identify how much money the organization spent on operating expenses and how much money was raised from donations. Using an example from a company, let\u2019s say ABC Corporation wants to plan its upcoming year. After examining their statement of activities, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bookstime.com\/articles\/statement-of-activities\">statement of financial activities<\/a> they can determine which fund they need to allocate more money too in order to achieve their goals for the year. Statement of Activities is part of your nonprofit\u2019s accounting requirements and is often included in its annual report or audited financial report. If you\u2019re starting a new nonprofit, a statement of activities is one of the 4 financial reports you must file.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Here\u2019s an example of what their Statement of Activities might look like.<\/li>\n<li>Financial activities result in either a surplus (increase) or shortfall\/deficit (decrease) in the organization\u2019s net assets shown on the Statement of Financial Position (SOFP).<\/li>\n<li>One of the sessions on the agenda tomorrow, for example, is how to engage civil society and youth to promote trust and health system transformation.<\/li>\n<li>But don&#8217;t fret \u2013 although it sounds complicated, these standard financial statements are easy to compile with the right tools and guidance.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, the line items in your organization\u2019s statement of activities should match those in the operating budget you created at the beginning of the fiscal year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It also allows leadership to find potential financial opportunities and ways to address financial concerns. Organizations share these statements to be entirely transparent with their donors. By sharing what funds they collect and how they\u2019re spent, donors can see how their gifts support the nonprofit\u2019s programs and beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<h2>Fall Enrollment Totals<\/h2>\n<p>It typically includes data on revenues, expenses, and changes in net assets. Columns are included to report data for each class of net assets \u2013 without donor restrictions, with donor restrictions, and total. This report is important for nonprofit organizations because it helps them assess their performance and identify areas where they need to improve.<\/p>\n<p>Save the Children adds these financial statements and a letter from the independent auditor when providing financial reports.
